Being Sick

Having a cold or illness sure is one way to get thrown off of your normal healthy activities.

I've had a cold for 4 days and it's messed with my sleep, my food intake, and my exercise levels. I'm too congested to sleep well, I can't taste much and just want simple foods, and I don't want to move much. I went for a walk a couple days ago and I felt like a walking, animate pile of dirty rags.

Me out for a walk a couple days ago. Just your friendly, everyday,
run-down, walking mess.

I've at least been able to keep some framework of a daily routine. I'll look forward to getting back to my normal routine when this is over.

Here are some mindset strategies for when you're sick:

  • Keep it in perspective. Worse things can happen, but they probably won't. Worse things probably have already happened to you. This stupid cold is nothing compared to having cancer a few years ago. Cancer (at least what I had) wasn't that bad in comparison to Junior High School.
  • Find something funny. If you feel like a mess, what would that look like? Clearly above is about how I feel with this cold.
  • Focus on something else. Work, reading, games, music, TV, videos, interpersonal drama.
  • Ponder your oneness with the universe and wonder what cosmic mucus is doing in your nose rather than seeding life on the innumerable other planets out there.
